The Final Spring Cleaning Step... for Email

DMARC Spring Cleaning…
OK, so we’ve arrived at the last step here in our move to sPanel and the effect on DNS mail records
I emailed you a few weeks back about Gmail’s edict on DMARC records, and that they were going to begin expecting all senders of email to have one. The DMARC record sums up what a receiving email server should do with email that does not comply with at least correct SPF or DKIM records.
In other words… if the sender says they are sending from “domain.ca”, but the email says it did not come from there… the DMARC record takes note of that.
If the DKIM record says the email being received should match up with a particular sender key, but it does not… the DMARC record takes note of that.
If the SPF record says the email should be coming from a particular mail server, and it does not… the DMARC record takes note of that.
By DEFAULT… once we do the move to the new sPanel… the DMARC records will be set to REJECT email that does not comply with at least ONE of those previous settings.
To the point… the DMARC record will be set to do its job… protect you from email that is NOT coming from who it says it is. While that may be an innocent mistake on the part of the sender…
… if you have someone else’s passport at the airport, they are not letting you through the gate and onto the plane.

So… we all have to learn to be part of the solution… not the problem.
COOLCOM is here to help you with these records… Tony, Phil, Brett, Carrie… everyone. If you just don’t know… ask. If someone is sending to you, and it’s not getting through… ask.
