Make this the year...

Birthdays and resolutions…

I disappeared for a bit… I’m sorry if I left you hanging.

It’s been awhile since my last newsie from COOLCOM, but it wasn’t for lack of caring. In fact, it was quite the opposite…. more likely a case of over thinking.

This whole AI thing, the business climate and political change, economies, relationships… it’s quite the whirlwind of emotion. Sometimes you just sit back, throw your hands up, and watch the world spin.

I’ve been gathering and absorbing a lot of info these last few months… keeping myself aware of developing business strategies, new online tools and methods… and spent considerable time separating “the wheat from the chaf” as they say here on the Prairies… distinguishing what’s valuable from what isn’t. It’s a legitimate concern.

So what has this all got to do with birthdays and resolutions?

COOLCOM just entered its 29th year of serving clients here in Canada. Longevity embraces reflection. As I look back and consider what has changed… it becomes clear to me what’s most important…

…that which has NOT changed… that which is permanent.

AI is flooding our world with content… a great deal of it mindless, mediocre, cheesy and simply filling up space. As a mentor of mine, Ryan Levesque recently wrote, the most valuable skill we now need to nurture is recognizing and knowing what’s worth keeping. We need to hone our good taste… the ability to recognize what deserves to exist.

Ryan states “taste is a timeless skill because it’s a way of seeing the world… and one of the few human traits that AI may never be able to replicate… as it lacks the human experience.”

It’s the timeless element that jumps out at me. What is most relevant in our day to day businesses is what is still there, and has been for years. We should be making our decisions based on things that are permanent… that still serve us well in five, ten years or more, and not the latest “fad.”

So today I resolve to spend my time on developing and nurturing that which will serve you not only today, or the next year…but for years to come. I resolve to look back, next March, and celebrate great change and success with you.

Let’s spend this year, not chasing the next shiny object or side hustle, but rather that which gives us permanence… fundamental, enduring principles. We’ll build our businesses on permanent, long-term anchors rather than tools or platforms.

Let’s choose…

  • connection, security, status, convenience

  • helping people save time, reduce pain, increase happiness

  • reciprocity, trust, attention

  • taste, adaptability

You’ll start seeing more of this at COOLCOM over the next months… in our presentation… our websites… and we’ll be offering to work with you on bringing more of the same into your business. The tips, tools and guidance will flow… but the focus will be the destination.

PS… there’s so much to come, but if you currently have a pressing need, and don’t know where to turn… write me. COOLCOM has been solving all sorts of email, hosting, transferring, copywriting, marketing and software issues for our friends for almost 30 years now. Nothing is too small… nothing too great. We’ll help you find a solution.

We’d love to help you… and if we can help you bring your services home to a Canadian company to boot… the door is open.
